Cecil Cal Williams, Sr.'s Obituary
Cecil Cal Williams, Sr., 87, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, in Memphis Tennessee. He was born on September 16, 1938, in LaGrange, Georgia to Johnny M. and Inez Cotton Williams. Cecil was united for 60 years in holy matrimony to Mamie Kate Williams who preceded him in death.
Cecil faithfully served on the Usher Ministry at Olivet M.B. Church until his health failed. He was employed by Ross Meehan Foundry, Brock Candy and Chattanooga Bakery for many years.
Cecil was a proud 25-year U.S. Army Veteran 2 years active-post Korea and 23 years Reserve. During his service he served out of 844 Engineering-Chattanooga. He also visited 15 countries and served in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie; two children, Phyllis and Johnny Williams; and one grandchild, Edward Williams Jr., brothers, Norman and J.W Williams. He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, Cecil C. Williams, Jr. (Barbara) of Memphis, TN, and Edward Williams of Chattanooga; one brother, Alton Williams of LaGrange, GA; two sisters-in-laws, Faye Williams and Barbara Williams; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Marietta), Cecelia, Alexis, Timmy, Cecil III, Aurianna, Ashley, Maximus, and Meridius; fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close family member, Mary Sims (Arthur Lee) of Jenkinsburg, Georgia.
He also leaves his lifelong military buddies, Charles Akins, James Hand, Calvin Foster, Calvin Stubbs, John Loins, Finbar Andrews, and Matthew Swopes, who stayed in constant contact with him while living in Memphis. He often spoke of those weekly lunch dates with the guys at Wally’s Restaurant and how he loved the fellowship. This is not the end and we will meet again. We are also grateful for neighbors on Tennessee Avenue, especially Thomas and Sandra Jones who were there to assist Cecil as well as two devoted and compassionate caregivers, Florence Ballard and Temika Cox, Home Health Aides of Memphis, Tennessee.
Cecil will lie-in-state on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon in the Chapel. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
