Catheron Mason's Obituary
Catheron Lucy Mason, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at her residence. She was born December 23, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She attended Howard High School and was employed by Rivoli Mills. Catheron accepted Christ at an early age and over the years, her love for the Lord grew. She married the love of her life, Leroy Mason in 1974 and they remained together until she was called home to be with the Lord. She was a faithful member of New Monumental Baptist Church under Pastor Virgil J. Caldwell and Dr. R. Gregory Odom. Catheron was very active in church and she served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir, served as a greeter, served with the Sick and Shut-In Ministry, served on the Kitchen Committee when they needed her, and the Missionary Society. She was active until her illness. Catheron enjoyed baking, exercising, shopping, crafting, decorating, going to yard sales, but most of all spending time with her family. She was a stylish dresser. Catheron loved everyone and everyone loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dollie Bennett; five brothers, Edward, Carl, Charlie, Bobby, and Billy Bennett; two sisters, Elois Hickey and Orma Jean Copeland. She leaves to cherish her memories: a devoted husband, Leroy Mason; one son, Michael Todd Stevenson; three daughters, Teresa (Mac) Browner, Tanya (Allen) Warren, and Tracy Williams; stepson, Leroy Mason, Jr.; grandchildren, Michael (Melissa) Stevenson, Quinnita Stevenson, David Scott, Brandy Scott, Misty Williams, Gabriel Williams; Gaylan Williams, Niles Browner, and Shana (Andre) Robinson, all of Chattanooga, TN; one brother, James (Priscilla) Bennett of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters, Noreen Posely, Peggy Fortson, and Marian Evans, all of Chattanooga; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to nurse Brenda, with Hospice of Chattanooga, for coming out to her home showing our mother kindness and support. Catheron will lie-in-state on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at New Monumental Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church with Pastor Kenneth Scaife as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
