Carven Baker, Jr.'s Obituary
Carven Baker, Jr., 80, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 17, 2023, at his residence. He was born in Chattanooga Tennessee on March 27, 1943, the eldest of four children to the parents of Carven Sr. and Hildegarde Baker. Some of his favorite hobbies were fishing, going to the casino, watching westerns and wrestling. He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a graduate of Howard High School. He worked hard all his life being employed by Roadway Express for many years and retired from Wheland Foundry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carven, Sr. and Hildegarde Baker; and brother-in-law, Andrew Massengill. He leaves to cherish his memories: devoted and loving wife of 39 years, Alice Armour-Baker; brother, Cecil (Melvina) Baker of Chattanooga; sisters, Karen Baker Hugley and Raqetta (Bill) Williams, both of Chattanooga; sons, Antonio Baker, Sr. of Vancouver WA, LaMarr “Ken” (Danielle) Baker, and Carven Baker, III of Portland, OR; daughters, Stephanie (Carl) Henderson of Vancouver, WA, “LaNise” (Le’Bron) Calhoun of Chattanooga, Sonya (Anthony) Howard, Carva Baker, both of Virginia Beach, VA, and Yashica Baker (Kevin Roulston) of Chattanooga; bonus son, Jimmy “Jeno” (Temika Smith) Dozier of West Virginia and bonus daughter, Kim (Tyree) McReynolds of Atlanta, GA; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Gilbert (Mary Alice) Armour of Chattanooga and Winston “Jan” (Bette) Armour of Italy; sisters-in-law, Vickie Massengill, Cathy Leak (William Freeman), and Rosemary Armour (Gary Ewing), all of Chattanooga; nephews; nieces; cousins; other relatives and friends. Carven will lie-in-state on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor James Calhoun as the eulogist. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
