Carolyn Fuqua's Obituary
Carolyn Lanette Fuqua, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, in a local hospice facility with her loving daughters by her side. Carolyn was a lifelong Chattanoogan and attended Riverside High School. She was employed by Cutter Laboratories in earlier years followed by Quaker Oats. Her final place of employment was with the Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA), where she retired. Carolyn was a long standing and active member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the mass choir and praise team. Carolyn was the oldest of eight children, which meant that she held tremendous responsibilities at a very young age. She was a lover of all things culinary, and a great cook she was! Like all “Nanas,” she wanted to ensure that her grandkids’ stomachs were “full” at all times. Feeding her family and friends was Carolyn’s love language. If you were a self-proclaimed good cook, you were challenged to prove it! Carolyn was famous for her Christmas brunch, Grandmama cake, and potato salad. All who knew Carolyn, knew that she was strong spirited, resilient, giving, and a fierce defender and protector of those she loved. But most of all, Carolyn loved her family and was devoted to the Most High God through Jesus Christ. Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Terry Fuqua, Sr.; parents, Robert and Dorothy Daniels; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Fuqua; sister, Brenda Daniels Graham; and brother, Robert “Bobby” Daniels, Jr.; several aunt and uncles. She leaves to cherish deep, loving memories of her daughters, Iris Grayson Butts of Flowery Branch, GA, Lisa (Jacob) Boyd of Athens, AL, Sharon Grayson, and Katrina Grayson of Chattanooga, TN. Carolyn had and truly loved her 11 beautiful grandchildren, Janai (Robert) Carradine, Javon Butts, Jade Butts, Joseph (Carmen) Worsham III, Jarren Worsham, Jordan Wilson, Jaclyn Boyd, Jazmin Boyd, Justin Boyd, Joss Boyd, and Jillian Edwards; 2 sweet and precious great-granddaughters, Cheyann Douglas and Carter Worsham; two beautiful sisters, Jacqueline (Larry) Miles of Conyers, GA and Priscilla (Rodney) Freeman of Rex, GA; three devoted brothers, Larry (Yvonne) Daniels of Acworth, GA, Calvin (Emma) Daniels of Jacksonville, FL, and Vincent Daniels of Rex, GA; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Aaron) Elliott and Linda Fuqua, both of Chattanooga; brothers-in-law, Robert Fuqua of Chattanooga and Richard (Gaysha) Fuqua of Tulsa, OK; her dearest friends, Ann Bodley and Jennifer Maffett; and a host of much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Carolyn will lie-in-state on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 11-12:30 p.m. at Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Forest Hills Cemetery with Pastor Larry Miles giving words of comfort.
