Carl Davis' Obituary
Carl “Daddy O” Davis, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Carl lived a life marked by quiet strength, steady loyalty, and deep devotion to his family.
Carl was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana, where he was known as an impressive athlete. His love for football carried him beyond high school — he spent a season on the practice squad for the Chicago Bears before a knee injury shifted his path. He later worked in local industry and was last employed by SmurFit Westrock. Carl was an attendee of Greater Community Church, where he worshipped with pride.
His work ethic and love for his family were well-known. Over the years he worked at Price Brothers, Wheland Foundry, Covenant Transportation, Schneider Transportation, SmurFit Westrock, and later became the owner and operator of Davis Lawn Service. Whether he was lending a hand to neighbors, offering quiet advice, or facilitating a good laugh, Carl touched lives with humility and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mertis Draper; father, Sylvester Davis, Sr.; mother, Ruby Hudson; brother, Sylvester Davis, Jr.; son, Carlton Davis; and great-granddaughter, Autumn Holly.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 13 years, Monica L. Jackson Davis; his sons, Keenon Davis of Dallas, TX, Cardarius Davis of Atlanta, GA, and Cardell Davis of Chattanooga; daughters, Kenya Davis of Indianapolis, IN, Renodda (Derrick) Hopkins of McDonough, GA, and Ja’Keva Lawerence of Chattanooga; his sister, Trina (Eugene) Bartholomew of Norfolk, VA; brothers, Wyatt (Sharon) Davis of Missouri City, TX, and Michael McKire of Kankakee, IL; mother-in-law, Ruby (Cecil) Hines of Chattanooga.
Carl also leaves behind 9 grandchildren — Elijah Davis, Jeremiah and Imani Hopkins, Jamari Holly, Keenon Jr., Kameron, and Karson Davis, Aryana and Andrew Cash; 1 great-grandchild, Neriah; nieces Chrystal, Courtney, Mya, Mikayla, and Deshaya; nephew Julius, cousins, other relatives and friends who loved him deeply.
Carl will be remembered for his warm heart, big laugh, pound cakes, love of family, and the steady presence he offered to all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing and his legacy continue through the many lives he touched.
Carl will lie-in-state on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Community Church of Chattanooga with Pastor Randy Peterson as the Eulogist. Burial on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
