Calvin Toney's Obituary
Calvin “Foe” Lebron Toney was born on October 30, 1953, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Harris and Marie Toney. Calvin grew up as one of 11 children born to the late Emeritus Harris Toney and Marie C. Toney in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 30, 1953. Calvin confessed Christ at an early age at Gospel Lighthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He later became a member of Christian Fellowship CPCA where he served as a dedicated deacon and later became an elder of the church. He was a member of Mount Canaan Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Riverside High School, class of 1971, and was a proud member of the wrestling team. He graduated from Chattanooga State Technical Community College with a degree in Civil Engineering. Calvin started his career at TVA in Knoxville, Tennessee where he lived for over a decade. He ultimately found his way back to Chattanooga while remaining with TVA for over 30 years until his retirement.
One of his attributes was cleanliness, that he portrayed in his appearance, particularly his shoes. Calvin enjoyed singing and dancing, and making you laugh (“bar-b-que or mildew”); (“come hard or don’t come at all”).
Among those who preceded Calvin in death include his parents, Emeritus Harris and Marie C. Toney: sisters, Barbara Johnson and Elaine Hill; and brother, Harris Eugene Toney. Remembering his most precious moments include his wife of nearly 18 years, Judy Toney; son, Marlon (Nayoung) Toney of Arkansas; two grandchildren, Mila and Felix Toney; bonus children, Jimmy Jones and Keisha Jones; several grand and great-grandchildren; brothers, Gregory (Audrey) Toney, Donald (Pamela) Toney, Ardis Toney, Danny (Donna) Toney, and Cedric (Venita) Toney; sisters, Teresa (Lee) Merrell, Renee Toney, and Diane (Albert) Grimes; brother-in-love, Frank Hill, all of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. He will lie-in-state on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Dennis Jones from Huntsville, Alabama as the eulogist.
