Brenda Lene Mitchell's Obituary
Brenda Lene Mitchell, 74, of Oakland, California, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024 in a nursing facility in Haywood, California. She had been hospitalized for well over a year because of complications of many strokes. She was born in Toney, Alabama and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She accepted Christ at an early age. Brenda, graduated from Howard High School, class of 1967, where she was a member of the fabulous marching 100’s band. Brenda’s classmates loved her funny personality, so in her senior year, she was selected class ‘most wittiest’. She was also active in extracurricular activities and participated in the high school production in 196, titled, “The Bad Seed”. After graduation, Brenda joined the US Army, where she served 3 years and was honorably discharged. Brenda was employed in several jobs, before spending 30 years with the City of San Francisco as a Parts Store Manager with MUNI. Brenda was also a local comic around the California Bay Area. Brenda is preceded in death by mother, Jonnie Mae (Bradley) Mitchell; father, Solomon Mitchell; beloved sister, Wilda Lloyd; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Bradley and Mr. and Mrs. Eddie and Mammie Mitchell; several close aunts, uncles, and cousins. Brenda never married or had children. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Marshall Fletcher (Kenneth Bray) of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Marvin Mitchell of Oxford, GA and Jeffery Mitchell of Smyrna, GA; aunt, Mary Mitchell; special and close cousins, Wilda and Reggie Jacobs of Toney, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend, Patricia Underwood-Williams. Lastly, a sincere and heartfelt thank you to her devoted California family and friends, Joanna Washington of 56 years and Ruthie White. Brenda’s memorial service will be Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
