Billy Cotton's Obituary
Billy Cotton, “Pretty Billy” 84, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023, in a local healthcare facility. He was of the Baptist faith. Billy retired from the City of Chattanooga, Public Works Department, after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Zettie Mae Cotton; brother, Bobby Cotton; and sister, Barbara A. Stockdale. Billy was the oldest of the Cotton family. He had a big personality, always quick with a joke or a rhyme. He was also the center of attention at family gatherings as he told family history and stories. His mind remained sharp until the end. Survivors include his brothers, William Cotton, Sr. and Larry (Marilyn) Cotton, Sr.; sisters, Geraldine Cotton and Mary L. Cotton; lifelong friends, Adella Smith and Gerald Johnson; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Billy will lie-in-state on Sunday, February 19, 2023, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside will be Monday, February 20, 2023, at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Barbara Woods and Gerald Johnson giving words of comfort.
