Beverly McClendon's Obituary
Beverly L. McClendon, 63, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023, in a local hospital. She was 1 1978 graduate of Chattanooga City High School. Beverly was formerly employed by Durham School Service as a School Bus Attendant. She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Michael McClendon, Sr.; father, Walter Fortson, Sr.; mother, Irma Fortson; brothers, Ronald Bumcum and Thomas Fortson. Survivors include her daughters, Tomeka Tucker and Shanika Tucker, both of Chattanooga; three grandchildren; stepmother, Peggy Ann Fortson; brothers, Horry Bumcum, Willis Smartt, Walter Fortson, Jr., and Timothy Fortson, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Sharon Fortson of El Cajon, CA, Angela Cowan of Chattanooga, and Sonya Slay of Smyrna, TN; aunts, Sara Cook, Mary Benson, and Jacquelin Hutto Cooper; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; special friend, Theresa Stanley and other friends. Beverly will lie-in-state on Monday, July 10, 2023, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Pastor Melvin Tibbs as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
