Betty Ann Dozier's Obituary
Betty Ann (Edwards) Dozier, 73, formerly of Chattanooga, departed her earthly home on Saturday morning, June 22, 2024, at her Nashville, Tennessee residence. Her devoted daughter, Terri was by her side. Betty was born May 13, 1951, in Huntsville, Alabama to Haywood Edwards and Clara (Hurt) Edwards. She was educated in the Chattanooga Public School System. She graduated from Riverside High School in 1969. She attended Alabama A & M University. In 1970, Betty married the love of her life, Gerald “Wayne” Dozier, from that union they had a baby girl, and they named her Terri Delaine Dozier. The next few years Wayne, Betty and baby Terri lived a military life, while Wayne served his country. This union lasted for 38 years until her husband’s death. Upon their return to Chattanooga, Betty began her work journey as Department Secretary, in the Advisement Office at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, her employment lasted 20 years, after which she retired. She was a long-time active member of Glenwood Business and Professional Women Organization. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald DeWayne Dozier; parents, Haywood and Clara (Hurt) Edwards; sisters, Geraldine Edwards Stodghill, Vivan Edwards Simms, and Candice Edwards; father and mother-in-law, Eddie J. and Addie L. Dozier; brothers-in-law, Robert J. “Dusty” Dozier, Clifford L. Dozier, and Gregory D. Dozier; sister-in-law, Labernice “Bonnie” Dozier. Betty leaves to cherish her precious memories her daughter, Terri D. Dozier of Nashville, TN; grandsons, Gerald D. Jackson, Shakil L. Jackson, and Trevon Jackson, all of Nashville; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Lebron Edwards of Chattanooga, Dr. Lloyd Edwards of Birmingham, AL, and Haywood Edwards, III of Los Angeles, CA; sister, Drs. Sarah (Jessie) Broadnax; sisters-in-law, Theresa “Vickie” (Dozier) Kellum and Carolyn Dozier, all of Chattanooga; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Betty will lie-in-state on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with Dr. Jessie Broadnax as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
