Barry Lamont Childress' Obituary
Barry Lamont “Fish” Childress, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in local hospital. He was born July 16, 1955, in Berkley, Alabama to Thomas Dan and Alice V. Childress. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools. He was formerly employed by the City of Chattanooga Public Works Department for many years, prior to being self-employed as a brick mason. Barry was a compassionate and loving person. He loved his family, grandchildren, and helping others. Barry was a lover of music and being well dressed. He was of the Baptist faith. Barry was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Dan Childress; mother, Alice Childress Wilbanks; brother, James W. Hawkins; sister, Theola Childress; nephew, Patrick E. Childress; and son, Jeremy M. Clark. Survivors include his son Derrick Draper; grandchildren, Dynasty McMillian, Dshunti Springs, DAndrick Draper, Deisha Draper, Damaurius Draper, all of Chattanooga, Daionna Draper, and Dahmyaus Draper, both of Cleveland, TN; two brothers, Stacy (Vickie) Wilbanks of Chattanooga and Jeffery (LaQuanna) Nelson of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Garner (Leroy) Hughes, Allison Childress, Janet (James) Sturkey, Denise (Robert) Suggs, Jennifer Greenhill, Tabatha (Maurice) Edwards, Daphne (Lawanza) Stargin, all of Chattanooga; uncle, George Collier of Huntsville, AL; aunt, Betty of Buffalo, NY; close friend, Renee Marsh; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends Barry will lie-in-state on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, April 6, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Elder J. Wesley Hardaway, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
