Barbara Ann Toney Johnson's Obituary
Barbara Ann Toney Johnson, 74, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2024, in a local hospital, surrounded by loved ones. She was the first born child of the late Harris and Marie Toney. She was born in Triana, Alabama on August 22, 1949. Barbara confessed religion at an early age at Gospel Lighthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Riverside High School, Class of 1967 where she served as a member of The Cyntura’s Social Club and Head Majorette. She continued her studies at Alabama A&M University. In her early years, Barbara served as a substitute teacher, bank teller, and a second mom to her 10 siblings. Barbara became one of American Airlines first black flight attendants in 1972. She was the jokester of the family and always kept everyone full of laughter. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Johnson; son, Rodney Lamar Toney; parents, Emeritus Harris and Marie Toney; brother, Harris Eugene Toney; and sister, Elaine Toney Hill. She leaves to cherish her memories her brothers, Calvin (Judy) Toney, Gregory (Audrey) Toney, Donald (Pamela) Toney, James Toney, Danny (Donna) Toney, and Cedric (Venita) Toney; sisters, Teresa (Lee) Merrell, Renee Toney Kennebrew, and Diane (Albert) Grimes; brother-in-law, Frank Hill; nieces; nephews; cousins; a host of other relatives and friends. Barbara will lie-in-state on Monday, July 22, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Service will follow in the chapel at 12:00 noon with Dr. Kelvin Jones as Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens.
