Barbara A. Boddie's Obituary
Barbara Ann Buford Boddie, 76, of Ooltewah, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, in a local
hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 24, 1946, and was the second oldest of six children from the union of Florence Jones and Charles Buford. Barbara attended Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1964 with honors, receiving a college scholarship. Upon graduating she worked at a machine shop, NCR, and as an Administrator Assistant for the VP of Union College. Her compassion for people led her to work in the medical field as a Pediatric Medical Assistant and as a Dental Assistant. She also worked for approximately 5 years as a church treasurer. Barbara had a knack for gardening and had an impressive "green thumb" with plants and flowers. She could literally make anything grow! She was an excellent seamstress and made everything from clothes to curtains and loved making children's books! She enjoyed needlepointing and quilting as well and was also an excellent swimmer and bowler. She was such a stylish woman who enjoyed shopping and had a great love of clothes and shoes! And as her husband would say she missed her calling as a race car driver, because when she drove, she flew!! Barbara was a loving wife and a wonderful mother. She loved her husband and their children and felt the importance of raising all four of them in church, which was the foundation for life! Barbara was a great source of encouragement for everyone. She always had a kind word and was such a beautiful person both inside and out. She was an excellent homemaker, so clean detailed and organized and man was she a great cook. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Charles Buford Sr; her mother, Florence Hopson; brother Charles Buford Jr; son-in law, Pastor Jay Winston; and grandson, Jamar Winston. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, James Boddie, Sr.; children, Crystal Winston, Teresa (Paul) Harris, Jimmy Boddie, and Shana (Garth) Belmontes; her siblings, Dennis Buford, Gloria Helton, Eric Buford, and Deborah Gober; her grandchildren, Jeremy Winston, Corey Cole, Kristiana Cole, Jared Winston, Emil Belmontes, and Alexia Belmontes; her 6 great-grandchildren with one more on the way! Many nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends. Barbara was greatly loved and will be greatly missed!! There will be a private family Memorial Service at a later date. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
