Ann Emma Ghiden Avila's Obituary
Ann Ghiden Avila, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away May 7, 2025, in a local hospital. She was born on October 13, 1948, to the late T.C. Douglas and Hattie F. Douglas. Ann accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church. After working many years in banking, Ann retired and made sewing her main career and hobby. She learned how to sew in high school and started making her family and friends' clothes.
Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Douglas; brothers, Robert Bobby Douglas, Nathaniel Lewis, Robert L. Gill, Jr., and Asia Ghiden; and grandmother, Rose Poe.
Survivors include her loving sons, Robert (Yulanda) Gill, of Muscle Shoals, AL and Tim (Kiamesha) Ghiden, of Chattanooga; brothers, Ronald (Kennetta) Douglas, of Upper Marlboro, MD, Harold (Edna) Bayless, of Chattanooga, Leon (Jackie) Douglas, and John (Xenia) Douglas; sisters, Frances J. (Steven) Henderson, of Cleveland, TN, Helen (Willie T) Ricks, Lynn Esther Douglas Crooks, Linda (Roosevelt) Douglas Broome, Brenda (David) Douglas Ricks, and Elizabeth Ray Booker; uncle, Joe Lewis, of Chattanooga; devoted cousins, Gladys Woods and Leslie Tatum; grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins; special friend Lynn (Aaron) Patillo, and many other friends.
Ann's devotion and passion to others will be deeply missed, and she will be remembered by everyone who knew her. She loved her family dearly and always went out of her way to help others.
Ann will lie-in-state on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Warfield as the Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
