Annie Sue Beckwith's Obituary
Annie Sue Beckwith, “SweetPea”, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026, in a local hospital surrounded by family. Annie was born February 7, 1942, to Jesse and Anna Adkins in Rome, Georgia. She was a graduate of Kirkman Technical High. She was affectionately called “Sue” by her family and friends.
Annie started her Christian journey at Callahan Church of Christ in Rome, Georgia. Her life’s journey in Rome, Georgia began with her being united with Haywood Arnold, Sr. and to this union four children were born, Haywood, Jr., Lonnetta, Melody Rose, and Nedra Sue.
Annie relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee and placed her membership with the Avondale Church of Christ. She was a faithful member and was a Sunday School Teacher for the Nursery Class for many years. While residing in Chattanooga, Annie worked as a Meat-Wrapper/Butcher at Buehler Market.
As Annie continued her life’s journey, she met Robert Beckwith, Sr. and upon marrying him, relocated to Tuscumbia, Alabama making a new life with him. Annie was employed by Walmart in Tuscumbia as a Baker. She placed her membership with the High Street Church of Christ and was a faithful member with her husband. Robert’s health began to decline, and Annie was right by his side until his transition. Annie’s health began to decline as well, and she eventually returned to Chattanooga to be in the care of her loving daughters. She proudly placed her membership with the East Third Street Church of Christ where she was a faithful and dedicated member.
Among those who also preceded Annie in death include her parents Jesse and Anna Adkins; son, Haywood Alex Arnold; daughter, Melody Rose Arnold; and 11 siblings.
Cherishing Annie’s loving memories include her devoted daughters, Lonnetta Dixon and Nedra Moody; bonus daughters, Sonya (Christopher) Marshall and Rosalyn (Garland) Eastman; sister, Linda (Marshall) Pride, Sr., all of Chattanooga; grandsons, Marion Walker, IV, Terry (Rena) Haywood, Jr., Joshua McWhirter, and Jeremy (Kendricka) Haywood; special niece, Cynthia Diane Smith of Rome, GA; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Annie will lie-in-state on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at East Third Street Church of Christ. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Church with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial will be on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
