Angelia Stevenson's Obituary
Angelia “Candy” Stevenson, 64, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at her residence. She was born January 8, 1959, to Clyde & Lucille Stevenson in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Candy graduated from Riverside High School and shortly after started her career at the City of Chattanooga, where she worked for 35 years in various supervisory and administrative roles. One of those roles was being the First Black Female Refuse Inspector for the City of Chattanooga. Candy was a member of Christian Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America, where she served as a deacon. She served in the choir and oversaw the youth holiday programs. Apart from her job in the City of Chattanooga, Candy loved to serve others in her family and her community. Candy enjoyed reading her Bible, singing, cooking, fishing, and giving life to plants. She was very meticulous and well organized and paid attention to details when she was helping others to relocate or clean up. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Claude and Lassie Davis Stevenson; maternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Catherine Hampton, and Izola Houston; and brother, Clyde Vernell Stevenson. Candy is survived by her parents, Clyde and Lucille Stevenson; brothers, Samuel (Frances) Stevenson and Bruce Stevenson; sisters, Deborah (Lee) Grimes, Maureen “Gail” Carter, and LaToya “Nickie” Stevenson; a host of aunts; uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Candy will lie-in-state on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 9 am at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the chapel with Pastor Eric Jones of Christian Fellowship as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery.
