Andrew McKinney's Obituary
Andrew McKinney, 79, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at his residence in Atlanta Georgia. He was the first-born son to Mr. Andrew Jackson McKinney, Jr. and Mrs. Annie Louise Mathis McKinney in Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 10, 1945.
Andrew attended Booker T. Washington High School, and attended McKenzie College where he studied and obtained an Associates Degree in Business.
Andrew served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he also received a Purple Heart. Later, he worked at Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Nuclear Plant as a pipefitter and welder. He retired as a disabled veteran.
Andrew enjoyed running and swimming. Because of his passion for swimming, he became a lifeguard at Booker T. Washington State Park. He loved spending quality time and attending sporting events with his children and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew McKinney, Jr. and Louise McKinney; his brother, Archie McKinney; his sister, Betty Dale Cowan; and two granddaughters. Those left to honor his life with precious memories are his wife, Deborah Ann McKinney; his children, Ginika McKinney, Andrew McKinney, IV, April McKinney, and Brittany McKinney; sisters, Cherry Merrell, Nellie McKinney, Gertie (Willie James) Miller, Vanessa McKinney, Robbie (Karen) McKinney, Sr., and Chris McKinney; four grandchildren; uncle; host of nieces; nephews; cousins; and other relatives. Andrew will lie-in-state on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Ron Cook, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
