Americus Victoria Hight's Obituary
Americus Victoria Hight, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in the Hospice Care Center of Chattanooga. She was born on June 12, 1952, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Moses and Evelyn Flemings Michell. She was a 1970 Graduate of Howard High School. She graduated from Cleveland State Community College and Southern Adventist University, where she earned her Bachelor of Nursing Degree and Master of Nursing Degree. She was employed by Erlanger Baroness Hospital in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee, and owned her own Private Practice where she worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Before retiring, she was also employed at Cleveland State Community College as a Professor of Nursing. Vickie was full of life. She loved her family and friends. She loved to travel. She loved her class reunions and family reunions. She especially loved family gatherings (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July). Vickie had a great desire for food and loved “lobster tail” which she ordered at her favorite restaurant, Red Lobster, and Ruth Chris when celebrating her birthday. Vickie was a faithful church member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and loved her church and spending time with the Lord. She served in many church roles at Second Missionary Baptist Church: President of Magruder Bereavement Ministry, Culinary Ministry, and Christian Sunday School Ministry. Americus was preceded in death by her father, Moses E. Mitchell; her mother, Evelyn Flemings Mitchell; and brother, Larry Mitchell. She is survived by her spouse, Richard Hight; son, Richard Hight, II; daughter, LaKesha Hight; sisters, Pecola Lee, Teresa Young, Levena Bass, and Denise North; uncle, Bruce Flemings; sister-in-law, Ida Faye; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; dear loyal friend, Gail Truss and many other friends. Americus will lie-in state on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Ernest L. Reid, Jr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
