Alice A. McGowan's Obituary
Alice Ann Elder McGowan, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, in a NHC Healthcare facility. She was born March 13, 1947, to John B. and Mary J. Elder, Sr. She was a graduate of Riverside High School. She attended Chattanooga City College, where she became a caregiver. Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church until her health declined. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Elijah McGowan; parents, John and Mary Elder, Sr.; brothers, John Elder, Jr. and Allie Elder; sisters, Lavada Elder Brown and Johnnie M. Jones; and son, Benjamin McGowan. Survivors include her son, Steven (Jackie) McGowan; grandchildren, Ben, Steven, Alicia, Jennifer, Marquita, Jocelyn, and Chad; a host of great-grandchildren; brothers, William (Lee) Elder and Villanueva Elder; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Alice will lie-in-state on Saturday, April 8, 2023, from 12-1 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. There will be no service.
