Alfred P. Swoope, Jr.'s Obituary
Alfred Preston Swoope, Jr. 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, in a local hospital. He was known by his family and friends as “Boonie” or “Big Al”. Alfred was born on November 24, 1946 to the Alfred P. Swoope, Sr. and Marian Swoope in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Riverside High School. After high school, he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a long-time employee of Memorial Healthcare System where he worked in Environmental Services for over 30 years before retirement. Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred, Sr. and Marian Swoope; grandparents; sons, Ercris Horton and Vincent Bailey; grandson, Pierre Horton; niece, Crystal Cranford; cousin, Artie Shaw. Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Swoope, Raymond Swoope, Carlton Horton, and Steve Horton; daughters, Lenika Swoope and Constance Horton; 6 grandchildren, Quatae Swoope, Kamilah Jones, Antonio Swoope, KeNora Swoope, and Laila Swoope; great-grandchild, Ca’Reyonna Pollard; loving sister, LaFreda (Terrell) Johnson; supportive nephews, Terrell “T.J.” Johnson, Jr., Adrian “A.D” Smith, and Corey Fletcher; niece, Rainey Robertson; daughter-in-law, LaShonda Swoope; godson, Steve Jackson; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Alfred will lie-in-state on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
