Alfonzo McClendon's Obituary
Alfonzo McClendon, age 70, formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his residence in Huntsville, Alabama. He was born on May 28, 1955, to Christine McClendon in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he attended Chattanooga City Schools. Alfonzo accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was employed for many years at Erlanger Baroness Hospital and CHI Memorial Hospital, where he worked faithfully until his health declined. Affectionately known as “Big Al,” he was one of the kindest souls you could ever meet and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Alfonzo was preceded in death by his mother, Christine McClendon; brothers, Roland, Michael, Ronnie, Carl, and Terry; aunt, Viola Phillips; nephew Charles McClendon; niece Teresa McClendon; and great-niece Shakendra McClendon. Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Ashley (Kentavious) Tolbert of Huntsville, Alabama; Alicia, Christina, Tanisha, and Quintana, all of Chattanooga, Tennessee; sons, Montez of Chattanooga and Atreas (Stacy) Blue of Cape Coral, Florida; sisters, Linda McClendon, Teresa Plummer, and Lisa Plummer, all of Chattanooga; eighteen grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and devoted friends Patricia Hayden-Clay, the Hayden and Tolbert families. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Alabama and the Southern Cancer Center for their exceptional care and compassion. He will lie-in-state on Friday, November 28, 2025, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. There will be a family hour from 4:00 -5:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home chapel. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
