Alanda Clark's Obituary
Alanda Verneice Shropshire Clark, 76, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, in a local hospital after going through three remissions with cancer in a period of almost ten years. She was born on August 9, 1946 in Lafayette, Georgia to the late Jessie and Ruby Marsh Shropshire. Alanda was baptized at the New Home Baptist Church in Noble, Georgia. She sang in the Shropshire family chorus as well as the church chorus. Alanda joined the First Baptist Church of Bozentown when she moved to Chattanooga where she also sang in the choir. Alanda’s primary education was obtained in the Walker County School System. She then transferred to Howard High School. Alanda graduated from Howard High School on May 9, 1964. She retired from Hamilton County School System as a Cafeteria Manager. She then retired from Roper Corporation and worked part-time for Wal-Mart. Alanda enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and trying new recipes. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Alanda was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mitchell Clark, Sr.; sisters, Vanessa Louise Shropshire, Sonya Renae McGee, Angela Denise Houston, and Gloria Elaine Shropshire; brother, James Ronald Shropshire. Survivors include her sons, Christopher Lamar (Sheena) Clark, Charbonneau Wesley (Kimberly) Clark, and Robert Mitchell (Iris) Clark, Jr.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis (Dana) Shropshire of Jacksonville, FL, Gregory (Gwen) Shropshire of Atlanta, GA, Timothy Shropshire, Mark Shropshire, and Jessie Shropshire, all of Georgia; sisters, Marva (J.L.) Johnson, Valerie (Donald) Lawrence, both of Lafayette, Theresa Simmons, and Shelia (Kenneth) Lowery, both of Atlanta; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Houston and Randy McGee, both of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Karen Shropshire of Dalton, GA; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Alanda will lie-in-state on Sunday, May 21, 2023, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday, May 22, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Archie Jackson as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
