Veranda Meshell Barnette

Veranda Meshell “Shell” Barnette, 55, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at her residence. She was a 1984 graduate of Chattanooga City High School. Veranda was a veteran of the United States Navy. She was employed by NHC and was a member of Avondale Church of Christ. Veranda was preceded in death by her mother, Lula Jones; aunts, Patricia Williams, Mae Doris Fugett, and Mattie Penn; uncles, Grover Barnette, Sr., Nall Parker, Robert Stone, and Reuben Stone; grandfather, Harold Barnette; grandmother, Catherine (Moon) Barnette; cousins, Jeffrey Allen, Grover Barnett, Jr., and Christopher Hitchcock. Survivors include her son, Samuel Tramale Petty of Ooltewah, TN; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; father, Jim Stone of Chattanooga; brothers, Terrance Calhoun of Chattanooga, Eric D. (Daljuania) Garner of Rossville, GA, and Roderick Garner of Chattanooga; sister, Nicole Scott; uncle, Clark Barnette, both of Chattanooga; aunts, Jennie Ruth Allen of Chattanooga and Janice Brightwell of Athens, GA; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
