    Stella Mae Hymes

    October 10, 1952 - March 16, 2022

Stella Mae “BabyDoll” Hymes, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022, in a local hospital. She was known for her charismatic sayings such as, “I walk it, Like I talk it and It's been written and proven”. She had some outstanding dance moves that she shared on a week-to-week basis with her friends and family at BABYDOLL LANE. She had a great love for different types of music especially blues and gospel. Nobody fried good ole diabetical chicken and made what she called her famous welfare hamburgers like our BABYDOLL. Stella was a graduate of Riverside High School. She occasionally attended Agent of Change Church. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice and Edward Hymes, Sr.; sister, Jeraldine Bailey Hutchins; brother, Edward Hymes, Jr.; two nieces, Katrinka Hymes and Angela Hymes; nephew, Jeroderick Washington; longtime companion, Melvin Leslie; and special friend, Gary Chubbs. Survivors include two daughters, Tonia (Brian) Boyd-Love and Pastor Letechia (Pastor Nigel) Ellis; six grandsons, Ronald Glass, Jr., DeQuan Boyd, Jamarko Langston, Brian Clay, Jr., Perry Langston, Jr., and LeShun Boyd Gordon; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Hymes; sister-in-law, Janet Hymes; nieces, Loretta (Tim) Bailey, Kimberly Hymes, Calandra Walker, and Surprena (James) Chanell; devoted niece and nephew whom she raised in her home, Janakia Hymes and Trammell (Carlos) Hymes; nephews, Rodney Hymes and Michael Franklin; godsons, Ronald Cain and Frederick Stoudemire; goddaughters, Desunta Pitts, Serenity, and Benita Carter; godgreat-granddaughter, Londyn Pitts; loved like sisters, Gennetta Boyd, Darlene Boyd, Theresa “Tuddy” Finch, and Ira Jean Little; several special nieces; special nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
