Janice Jo “Jody” Lawson, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, May 20, 2022, in a local healthcare facility. She graduated from Howard High School Class of 1961 and following high school, she furthered her education at Zion College with an Associate degree in Business. Jody was baptized by her father, Reverend James C. Clark and united with the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. She was the director of the Youth Choir and a member of the Senior Choir. Jody was truly a child of God, dedicated, loving, and caring person with an outstanding personality. Everyone that knew her loved her spirit. She moved to Detroit, Michigan after her marriage to Willie James Lawson, and united with Anderson Temple Baptist Church where she became a choir member and president of the Nurses Guild. She was employed by Bank of Detroit. Jody returned to Chattanooga and then relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where she attended True Life Baptist Church. She was employed by Senior Citizen Living Building, and also worked in the 1996 Olympics. Jody returned to Chattanooga and reunited with Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, but before her health failed, she united with Resurrected Baptist Church. Survivors include her sisters, Cora “Co-Co” Williams, Jacqueline “Mommie” Bradley, Ava “Sis” Johnson, Adelaide “Lay Lay” Clark Lawson, and Joyce “Baby Girl” Clark; Godson, Ernest Williams; Goddaughter, Jacqueline Williams; nieces, Patrice Lawson and Mona (Alphonzo) Hammonds; nephews, Kevlin Bradley, Victor (Adnalena) Williams, Antwoine (Kimberly) Lawson, Keenan Sloane; a host of cousins; other relatives and many, many friends.
