I was 16 years old when I worked at the Red Food Store (Food City) and Mrs. Bernice was my trainer. She taught me how to ring those groceries up real fast and get the customers out of there. She knew the prices of things that didn't have the price sticker printed. That's how much she knew the store. She used to say, "Get those people rung up and out of here and on to the next one." She didn't play any games when it came to work. I remember when I graduated from high school and went to the store to let her see me in my cap and gown. She gave me the biggest hug and said, "Now listen. Don't you stay around here trying to work at this store. Go get your education!!" She had such a beautiful spirit and she was patient with me. Any time I had a question, she was always the next register over and would come to help me. I saw her years later and she remembered me saying I was a hard worker back then because a lot of those teenagers didn't want to work. She really had a lasting impression on me and I will never forget her.
