November 23, 1925 - November 30, 2020
Mrs. Callie Mae Lindsey Sampson, 94 years young, made her earthly arrival on November 23, 1926; and she entered eternal life on Monday, November 30, 2020, at NHC of Chattanooga Facility, after a brief battle with COVID-19. For many years, she was a stay-at-home mom who often volunteered at her children’s schools helping with various tasks and events. She worked for John and Joni Adams family for many years. The entire Adams family loved Callie unconditionally and she loved and thought of them as her second family. She was a devoted member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church, were she served on the Nurses Guild Ministry under the leadership of late Pastor Dr. William H. Ryan, Jr., before her health started to decline. She was also the 2019 NHC of Chattanooga Prom Queen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Porter Sampson, Sr; daughter, Marjorie Sampson; daughter-in-law, Delbra Sampson; grandson, Marcus Payne, Sr.; parents, Hershell and Lacy Owens Lindsey, Sr.; brothers Hershell Lindsey, Jr., and Johnnie Lindsey; sisters, Annie Lee Blackstone, Mattie Will Martin, Jannie Mae Reed, Venner Lou Allen, and Willie Bea Lindsey. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Lillie (Garry, Sr.) Roshell, Rosa L. Watkins, Brenda (Charles) Coger, Georgia (George) Wheeler, Marian Petite, all of Chattanooga, Barbara (Thomas) Sorrells, Sr. of Lewes, Delaware, Mildred (Willie) Johnson of Landover, Maryland; sons: Johnny Sampson, William L. Sampson, Sr., both of Chattanooga, Joe P. Sampson, Jr. of Lewes, Delaware, and Pastor Roy T. Sampson of Killeen, TX., devoted brother George Lindsey of Chattanooga, 41 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; devoted grandsons, Garry L. Roshell, Jr. and Spencer Ray Montgomery, Jr. and devoted granddaughter, Shamila Montgomery-Ballard. Devoted & longtime friends, Wilma Elsberry, Laverne Harper, Gary Bostock; Patti Traffanstedt and Hughie Raper. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Jordan Ellis, NP, Nikki Bonds, Michell and other staff at NHC of Chattanooga. We respectfully request that all current CDC mandates be adhered to including face coverings and social distancing during the public viewing. While we know family friends and co-workers of the family would like to be with the family during this time, for the safety of us all, a private graveside service will be held for the family, with Rev. William H. Ryan III officiating.
